The Global Stewardship Group would like to congratulate the South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) for successfully completing its audit under the Excellence Through Stewardship Global Audit Process. The ETS Global Audit Process ensures that our members have stewardship programs and quality management systems consistent with the Excellence Through Stewardship initiative.
The South African Sugarcane Research Institute (SASRI) is a division of the South African Sugar Association (SASA), a not-for-profit organization which represents the country’s sugar industry and is funded by sugarcane growers and millers. SASA members are the South African Cane Growers’ Association (SACGA), the South African Farmers Development Association (SAFDA) and the South African Sugar Millers’ Association (SASMA). SASRI’s aim is to serve the industry by providing support in the following areas:
Research, clustered within four multidisciplinary programmes, namely Variety Improvement, Crop Protection, Crop Performance and Management and Systems Design and Optimization;
An Extension and Biosecurity Service, which provides the essential link for knowledge exchange between researchers and sugarcane farmers;
SASRI also offers a range of services including fertilizer advice, pest and disease diagnoses and education courses.
